Levi Johnston Ex Lanesia Garcia Pregnant: Bristol Palin Wedding Off?

4 hours 57 min ago
Bristol Palin's friends have told RadarOnline.com that she is heartbroken after finding out that her fiance Levi Johnston may have impregnated his ex-girlfriend, Lanesia Garcia. In fact, Bristol may be having second thoughts about going through with the wedding, although a Palin family representative said, "no official decision has been made."

Earlier in the week, the National Enquirer reported that Garcia was pregnant and she and Johnston were together when he was single last year. A source says that Johnston claims the baby isn't his, but that, "Levi is one of three possible fathers who were with Lanesia during the probable week of conception."

In 2008, Garcia talked to UK's News Of The World, revealing that she and Levi were in a three-year-long relationship before her then-best friend Bristol stole him away from her. Via PopCrunch:

Here's what Lanesia said at the time: "I didn't believe it, I never dreamt she was capable of doing that to me. But when I called her she just said, 'I'm so sorry, I couldn't help it. Levi and I are together now and I think he's the man for me.' I put the phone down and have not talked to her since. I was distraught for a year -- I missed Bristol desperately but also Sarah, who was like a second mom to me. Neither of them have tried to contact me, though -- which says something about how ruthless they can be. The phrase Sarah used comparing herself to a lipstick-wearing pit bull is spot on."

Anne Rice: 'I Quit Being A Christian'

Thursday, July 29, 2010 - 11:15 am
Anne Rice, the bestselling novelist most popularly known for "Interview with the Vampire" and her other creepy vampire novels, announced on Wednesday via Facebook that she has officially renounced Christianity. It's a bold move for the author who has become well-known for her vehement religiosity; the majority of her frequent tweets are related to religion in some way. The author has also recently launched a new series of novels about angels, which debuted in October 2009 with "Angel Time."

Rice declared on her Facebook account that she is "an outsider" in the Christian community:

I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life.

Rice affirmed that though she has decided to leave the Christian institution, she "remain[s] committed to Christ as always."

Obama 'The View' Interview: President Talks Sherrod Firing, Afghanistan, Lindsay Lohan (VIDEO)

Thursday, July 29, 2010 - 8:50 am
NEW YORK (AP)-- President Barack Obama said Thursday that the racial firestorm that led to the ouster of a black Agriculture Department official was a "phony controversy" generated by the media. He said his administration overreacted by forcing her out.

In an interview on ABC's daytime talk show "The View," Obama said the forced resignation of Shirley Sherrod shows racial tensions still exist in America."There are still inequalities out there. There's still discrimination out there," Obama said. "But we've made progress."

Sherrod was forced to resign after a conservative website posted an edited video of her speaking about race. Sherrod said the video took her remarks out of context. When her full remarks were discovered, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack apologized and offered Sherrod a new job at the department.

Obama pinned much of the blame for the incident on a media culture that he said seeks out conflict and doesn't always get the facts right. But he added, "A lot of people overreacted, including people in my administration."

The Sherrod incident added another wrinkle to an administration already burdened by the slow pace of the economic recovery, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Gulf oil spill. While acknowledging that the country has gone through a tough stretch since he took office, Obama said he remains optimistic about the direction the U.S. is headed.

"What has been satisfying is just seeing how resilient the American people are," he said.

Obama's interview with "The View" was the first appearance on a daytime talk show by a sitting president. The wide-ranging interview also dipped into Obama's knowledge of pop culture, an area he showed some proficiency, admitting that he knows actress Lindsey Lohan is in jail.

But he skirted a question about whether actor Mel Gibson should go to anger management classes, joking that he'd rather answer a question about the war in Afghanistan. And when asked about "Snooki," a character on the MTV reality show "Jersey Shore," Obama pleaded ignorance.

But perhaps the biggest revelation was that the blackberry Obama fought so hard to keep at the start of his presidency hasn't turned out to be that much after all. Because his e-mail traffic could be subject to eventual requests for disclosure, Obama said the 10 people who have his coveted e-mail address are cautious with their messages.

"Nobody wants to send me the real juicy stuff," he said. "It's all very official."

Shirley Sherrod To Sue Andrew Breitbart

Thursday, July 29, 2010 - 8:40 am
SAN DIEGO — Ousted Agriculture Department employee Shirley Sherrod said Thursday she will sue a conservative blogger who posted a video edited in a way that made her appear racist.

Sherrod was forced to resign last week as director of rural development in Georgia after Andrew Breitbart posted the edited video online. In the full video, Sherrod, who is black, spoke to a local NAACP group about racial reconciliation and overcoming her initial reluctance to help a white farmer. Speaking Thursday at the National Association of Black Journalists convention, Sherrod said she would definitely sue over the video that took her remarks out of context. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has since offered Sherrod a new job in the department. She has not decided whether to accept.

Sherrod said she had not received an apology from Breitbart and no longer wanted one. "He had to know that he was targeting me," she said.

Breitbart did not immediately respond to a call or e-mails seeking comment. He has said he posted the portion of the speech where she expresses reservations about helping the white farmer to prove that racism exists in the NAACP, which had just demanded that the tea party movement renounce any bigoted elements. Some members of the NAACP audience appeared to approve when Sherrod described her reluctance to help the farmer.

The farmer came forward after Sherrod resigned, saying she ended up helping save his farm.

Vilsack and President Barack Obama later called Sherrod to apologize for her hasty ouster. Obama said Thursday that Sherrod "deserves better than what happened last week."

Addressing the National Urban League, he said the full story Sherrod was trying to tell "is exactly the kind of story we need to hear in America."

Obama has acknowledged that people in his administration overreacted without having full information, and says part of the blame lies with a media culture that seeks conflict but not all the facts.

At the journalists convention, Sherrod was asked what could be done to ensure accurate coverage as conservatives like Breitbart attack the NAACP and other liberal groups.

Sherrod, 62, responded that members of her generation who were in the civil rights movement "tried too much to shield that hurt and pain from younger people. We have to do a better job of helping those individuals who get these positions, in the media, in educational institutions, in the presidency, we have to make sure they understand the history so they can do a better job."

She said Obama is one of those who need a history lesson.

"That's why I invited him to southwest Georgia. I need to take him around and show him some of that history," Sherrod said.

Sherrod said the description of the new job she has been offered in the office of advocacy and outreach was a "draft," and she questioned whether any money had been budgeted for its programs.

"I have many, many questions before I can make a decision," she said.

Despite her experience, Sherrod said she believes the country can heal its racial divisions – if people are willing to confront the issue.

"Young African-Americans, young whites, too, we've done such a job of trying to be mainstream that we push things under the rug that we need to talk about. And then we get to situations like this," she said.

"I truly believe that we can come together in this country. But you don't (come together) by not talking to each other. You don't get there by pushing things under the rug."

Sherrod said her faulty firing should not be blamed on all media.

Before the full video was released, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly said Sherrod should be fired, and others called her speech racist. O'Reilly later apologized.

"They had a chance to get the facts out, and they weren't interested," Sherrod said.

She said she declined to give Fox an interview because she believed they were not interested in pursuing the truth. "They would have twisted it," she said.

A Fox News spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

7 Signs You Might Spot At The Next Republican Convention (PHOTOS)

Thursday, July 29, 2010 - 5:59 am
No, none of the signs in this collection come from any RNC event. Not yet, anyway. I'm not trying to make any predictions with these (though, if you want funny signs that predict the future, there is now an app for that), but chances are they'll trod out the classics to rev up the base: Oil drilling, gun carrying, gay-marriage bashing. Don't be surprised if these turn up on T-shirts at the Republican National Convention in Tampa in 2012.

Lorenzen Wright DEAD: Ex-NBA Player's Body Reportedly Found

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - 2:42 pm
Lorenzen Wright has been found dead, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports. Wright, a former NBA lottery pick who played in the league for more than a decade, vanished on July 19. He was 34.

A source tells MyEyeWitnessNews.com that the body suffered multiple gunshot wounds. According to the Commercial Appeal, "police sources confirmed earlier that they are investigating a 911 hangup call from Wright's cellphone made July 19." During the call, at least ten gunshots can be heard.

WREG previously reported that Wright had experienced financial troubles and that his home had been foreclosed in May. While authorities did not initially suspect foul play in Wright's disappearance, his family did. Wright had six children.

More from the AP:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Relatives and friends of Lorenzen Wright gathered Wednesday and grieved for the former NBA player who has been missing for 10 days, as police investigated the discovery of a man's body outside of Memphis.

Wright's uncle, Curtis Wright, told The Associated Press that police called the player's father, Herb Wright, Wednesday afternoon with the news he had died.

Sgt. Alyssa Macon-Moore of the Memphis Police Department wrote in an e-mail to the AP that police were investigating the death of an unidentified man beside a wooded area about 15 miles south of downtown Memphis. Asked if the man was Wright, she wrote they could not confirm the victim's identity Wednesday night.

The family issued a statement through a cousin of Lorenzen Wright, Camella Logan: "Lorenzen's family has come together to mourn his loss and honor his legacy. We appreciate your thoughts, prayers and condolences as they are comforting at this very difficult time. Additionally, we ask that you please respect our privacy as we try to cope with his sudden loss."

Wright's mother, Deborah Marion, arrived at the scene Wednesday night with a handful of family members. She crossed the crime scene tape and tried to talk to police when she was told to move back. She sat in a TV van before returning to the tape. Two officers then let her through.

The distraught Marion then started running down the road toward the crime scene before being stopped by an officer. She spoke with officers, then walked back past reporters without speaking straight to a van.

The 34-year-old Wright was last seen July 18 when he was expected to fly out of town. His family filed a missing person report July 22.

Wright played 13 years in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and most recently the Cleveland Cavaliers with 17 games in the 2008-09 season. Wright left the University of Memphis early for the NBA, and the Clippers made him a lottery pick with the No. 7 selection overall.

He averaged 8 points and 6.4 rebounds in 778 career games.

By nightfall, nearly 200 people had visited the road blocked off by police while TV news helicopters showed investigators scouring the grounds for evidence. Police brought in a mobile command center that further blocked off the scene.

Former NBA star Penny Hardaway, who played at Memphis two years before Wright, said he heard the news from a friend and went to the scene near where the body was found.

"I cried. The emotions hit me immediately. It's just sad because we lost a good person and a brother," Hardaway said.

Elliot Perry, another friend and former Memphis player, also was at the scene. Wendy Wilson, who once worked as Wright's personal assistant, also was there and said Wright often used the road police had cordoned off as a shortcut to his mother's house.

"He was a good person. He did not deserve to die this way. God is not pleased with this," Wilson said.

Memphis Grizzlies majority owner Michael Heisley issued a statement late Wednesday saying, "We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Lorenzen Wright. We lost a member of the Grizzlies family. Lorenzen delighted fans on the court with his passion and off the court with his generosity in a Memphis community that watched him grow throughout his playing career ..."

HMS Investigator, Ship Lost For More Than 150 Years, Recovered In Canada

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - 2:03 pm
TORONTO — Canadian archeologists have found a ship abandoned more than 150 years ago in the quest for the fabled Northwest Passage and which was lost in the search for the doomed expedition of Sir John Franklin, the head of the team said Wednesday.

Marc-Andre Bernier, Parks Canada's head of underwater archaeology, said the HMS Investigator, abandoned in the ice in 1853, was found in shallow water in Mercy Bay along the northern coast of Banks Island in Canada's western Arctic. "The ship is standing upright in very good condition. It's standing in about 11 meters (36 feet) of water," he said. "This is definitely of the utmost importance. This is the ship that sailed the last leg of the Northwest Passage."

The Investigator was one of many American and British ships sent out to search for the HMS Erebus and the Terror, vessels commanded by Franklin in his ill-fated search for the Northwest Passage in 1845.

Environment Minister Jim Prentice said the British government has been notified that one of their naval shipwrecks has been discovered, as well as the bodies of three sailors.

Captained by Robert McClure, the Investigator sailed in 1850. That year, McClure sailed the Investigator into the strait that now bears his name and realized that he was in the final leg of the Northwest Passage, the sea route across North America.

But before he could sail into the Beaufort Sea, the ship was blocked by pack ice and forced to winter-over in Prince of Wales Strait along the east coast of Banks Island.

The following summer, McClure tried again to sail to the end of the Passage, but was again blocked by ice. He steered the ship and crew into a large bay on the island's north coast he called the Bay of Mercy.

There they were to remain until 1853, when they were rescued by the crew of the HMS Resolute. The Investigator was abandoned.

"This is actually a human history," said Bernier. "Not only a history of the Passage, but the history of a crew of 60 men who had to overwinter three times in the Arctic not knowing if they were going to survive."

The Parks Canada team arrived at Mercy Bay on July 22. Three days later, the ice on the bay cleared enough that researchers were able to deploy side-scanning sonar from a small inflatable boat over the site where they believed the wooden ship had eventually sunk. Within 15 minutes, the Investigator was found.

"The ship had not moved too much from where it was abandoned," said Bernier.

The masts and rigging have long been sheared off by ice and weather. But the icy waters of the McClure Strait has preserved the vessel in remarkably good condition.

"It's incredible," said Prentice from Mercy Bay. "You're actually able to peer down into the water and see not only the outline of the ship but actually the individual timbers.

Archaeologists have also uncovered artifacts on land left behind by the stranded sailors, who unloaded everything before abandoning the Investigator.

The graves of three sailors thought to have died of scurvy have been marked off and will be left undisturbed, said Bernier.

Bernier said the next step will be to send down a remote controlled video camera to get actual pictures of the wreck. There are no plans to bring it to the surface and all legal steps will be taken to ensure the site remains protected.

Bernier also said the team will use similar technology to find the Erebus and Terror.

Demi Moore Gets Defensive About Her New Diet

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - 1:14 pm
After doing the Master Cleanse with her husband earlier this month, Demi Moore moved immediately into another "healthier" diet.

On Monday a fan asked Demi how many days she had stuck to the Master Cleanse, which involves consuming nothing but lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup.

"Only 4 but 2day's day 13 4me on The Clean Program! http://j.mp/a6N7qm RT @MirandaMartinez day 30 of Master Cleanse! How many days did u do?" she tweeted.

The Clean Program is the creation of Dr. Alejandro Junger, who helped Giuliana Rancic and Gwyneth Paltrow lose weight. It is a 21-day regimen of smoothies, and salads for dinner are allowed.

When one of Demi's followers politely said she was not interested in the Clean Program because "healthy diet & exercise are all that's required," Demi got defensive.

"@chazzyb31 I think you need to research what it is I am doing there is no starving involved! It is all about nourishing the body!" she tweeted. And: "@ElenorRigby yeah I think she doesn't know what she is talking about!"

Later a fan asked Demi for tips on getting through the Master Cleanse, and Demi admitted there are healthier things than the severe diet she just two weeks ago declared was "all about health!!!"

"@arock29 try The Clean Program far healthier and more liveable!" she tweeted.

Rosie O'Donnell: Obama Shouldn't Go On 'The View'

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - 11:47 am
Rosie O'Donnell said she thinks it's a bad idea for President Obama to go on the show she once co-hosted.

Speaking on her satellite radio show Wednesday, O'Donnell said the president's decision to appear on "The View" did not sit well with her (h/t Radio Equalizer):

"I have mixed feelings about that. I don't really think sitting presidents should go do fluffy daytime TV shows. Maybe an hour on 'Oprah' or something...I don't really want to see him on 'The View'...although I'm happy for them, that's a good booking, and Barbara's going to come back that day after her heart surgery..."

O'Donnell is far from the first person to chime in. Obama's decision has sparked a great deal of commentary. Politics Daily had nine of its writers offer their take on whether Obama should sit down with the women of the ABC show. On Tuesday's edition of "Morning Joe," Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell even said the decision was beneath the dignity of the presidency and compared it to going on "Jerry Springer."

Bush Memoir Release Has Republicans Concerned

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - 9:27 am
With the 2010 election season underway, Republicans are reportedly concerned about how the impending release of former President George W. Bush's memoir, Decision Points, may affect the party's success at the polls come November.

While the widely-anticipated book from Bush isn't set to be released until November 9 -- one week after votes are cast across the country -- details from the text have already begun to leak out.

Moreover, the unpopular Republican leader and contentious policy initiatives put forth by his administration have already resurfaced to shake-up this year's heated midterm match-ups.

Matt Latimer at the Daily Beast reports:

[Some] Republicans, particularly those most closely tied to the Bush regime, actually argue the book could help the party by reminding some voters of what they liked about Bush. Still, that has not stopped some Republicans, traumatized over the last two election cycles, from fearing the worst. "Monumentally bad timing" was the reaction of one former Bush aide who learned of the book release date. Another prominent conservative compared the Bushies' public-relations savvy to LeBron James. "Selfish and stupid" was another noted right-wing columnist's reaction.

As for Democrats, it seems that the date of the memoir's release coinciding with the midterm elections should come as welcome news.

Just last week the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee rolled out a web ad taking aim at Republicans over the Bush issue. The organization's message -- "we can't afford to [go] back" to the Bush era -- came on the heels of Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Tex.) suggesting, "We need to go back to the exact same agenda that is empowering the free enterprise system rather than diminishing it," alluding to the fiscal policy of the Bush administration as benchmark for success.

Similarly, Texas Sen. John Cornyn, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, found himself under attack from Democrats after he cast a relatively favorable light on the Bush 43 presidency. In an appearance on C-SPAN the GOP Senator asserted, "I think a lot of people are looking back with a little -- with more fondness on President Bush's administration, and I think history will treat him well."

The extent to which the Bush factor will prove instrumental in influencing this year's races remains to be seen; however, it seems safe to expect Democrats will continue making the former president's legacy an election issue.

Anna Fermanova PHOTOS: 'Sexy' Latvian Beautician Busted For Trying To Smuggle Night-Vision Rifle Sights To Russia

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - 8:27 am
Scroll down for photos of Anna Fermanova.

Fresh off busting up the Russian spy ring that included bombshell Anna Chapman, authorities have apprehended another attractive young woman with ties to Russia, this time for allegedly trying to smuggle night-vision rifle sights to Russia without a license.

Anna Fermanova, a beautician by trade, had been caught with $15,000 worth of accessories in her luggage when she checked in for a Moscow-bound flight at New York's JFK International Airport in March, but was allowed to continue her journey after the items -- a $7,000 Raptor 4X Night Vision Weapons Sight and two other night-vision devices worth $4,000 each -- were confiscated.

The Latvian-born Fermanova, who was arrested July 15 after she returned from Russia, is said to split her time between Dallas and Moscow, where her husband lives. She told authorities she'd purchased the scopes online for her husband's hunting activities and was unaware of any legal issues pertaining to their transport.

Fermanova's glamorous appearance and trim figure have drawn inevitable comparisons to Chapman, who was deported back to Moscow earlier this month. And like that case, Fermanova's supporters have been quick to shrug off the "femme fatale" title. "She's a nice Jewish girl who lives with her sweet Latvian parents," her attorney Scott Palmer told the Daily News.

Still, like Chapman, Fermanova's Facebook page is littered with scintillating photos that show the blond sipping wine with girlfriends and posing on a beach in a bikini.

"She is quite sexy, you could say, but she is not a spy," Palmer told the Dallas Morning News. He also declined to reveal the identity of Fermanova's husband, but said he has been involved in investment banking as well as imports and exports.

Just How Far Is the "Ground Zero Mosque" From Ground Zero?

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - 7:50 am
The "Ground Zero Mosque" that we have been and will be hearing so much about is not exactly a mosque, nor is it at Ground Zero. Here's why: you can't see Ground Zero -- the former site of the World Trade Center -- from the future site of the Cordoba House.

From 45 Park Place, the former Burlington Coat Factory building that will make way for the Cordoba House, it's two blocks, around a corner, to get to the WTC site. Park Place doesn't lie between the construction site and any mass transit stations, so you would need to go out of your way to have it offend you.

If you look up the walking directions you'll notice that it takes a couple of minutes to walk the distance (approximately a tenth of a mile) between the two spots. Pretty much two minutes exactly when I took the trip with a shaky video camera. Here's the clip, first sped up to 4X speed then slowed down to 1X:

When the new World Trade Center rises, you'll be able to see it from 45 Park Place, because it'll be by far the tallest thing around. The planned Cordoba House will be dwarfed. It certainly won't overlook or overshadow Ground Zero.

Why is the distance between the two sites so important? Simple accuracy, for one. It's frustrating to see so many commentators blithely disregard an obvious, physical problem with the "mosque at Ground Zero" formulation: it's not at Ground Zero.

Clyde Haberman of the New York Times further explains the significance:

There's that "at." For a two-letter word, it packs quite a wallop. It has been tossed around in a manner both cavalier and disingenuous, with an intention by some to inflame passions. Nobody, regardless of political leanings, would tolerate a mosque at ground zero. "Near" is not the same, as anyone who paid attention back in the fourth grade should know.

I understand the journalist's impulse to use the "Ground Zero Mosque" shorthand to instantly remind readers why they should care about the story. Headlines leave out qualifiers like "near" all the time for brevity's sake. But in this case the elision is critical; leaving out the "near" clearly takes sides -- against the "mosque" and against accuracy.

In addition, the building planned for 45 Park Place is a cultural center with a prayer room -- not a single-purpose house of worship for Muslims, which is probably what we should reserve the word "mosque" for. As Haberman also explains, "That it may even be called a mosque is debatable. It is designed as a multi-use complex with a space set aside for prayer -- no minarets, no muezzin calls to prayer blaring onto Park Place."

The 92nd Street Y, on which the Cordoba House is explicitly modeled, has a whole host of Jewish events take place inside of it, but no one calls it a synagogue. There's no good reason why Cordoba House should be misleadingly called a "mosque." I've been guilty of using this word too, in conversation and in writing, but it's inaccurate. Muslims already read the Quran and pray at 45 Park Place, but that does not and will not turn it into a "mosque."

There's one more catch for the opponents of the so-called Ground Zero mosque: by the same logical leap you can call the Cordoba Center a "mosque," you can also call Ground Zero as it already exists a giant, open-air mosque. Muslim prayers are already taking place right on the edge of the construction site, and not for world domination. Families are going there to pray -- for the souls of the dozens of innocent Muslim victims who died on September 11.

Angelina Jolie In Graphic PHOTOS In Star Magazine: Nipple Tape, Dog Leash, Heroin Bender

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - 7:01 am
An old drug buddy of Angelina Jolie's has sold eight graphic and lurid photos of the actress to Star magazine, published in the issue out today. Here's what's in store:

In one set, the now-mother of six has black tape over her nipples and a dog leash around her neck. Others show her during a 14-hour heroin-smoking bender.

"The photographs are a startling reminder to Angelina of a period in her life I'm sure she wants to forget, a shady piece of her history that she's kept hidden away, even from Brad," celebrity biographer Andrew Morton, author of Angelina: An Unauthorized Biography, tells Star in our cover story.

The never-before-seen photos are packaged with tidbits from Morton's tell-all: Angelina got a genital tattoo of Billy Bob Thorton's name, lost her virginity at 14 to the boy who introduced her to knife play and hired a hit man to kill her (the hit man told her to think about it for a month, during which she decided to live).

The 19 Most Regrettable Pop Culture Tattoos (PHOTOS)

Tuesday, July 27, 2010 - 4:31 pm
Whether misspelled or of passing Internet trends, a bad tattoo is something you just know when you see it. But what about pop culture tattoos? Permanently inking the name of your favorite popular musician, TV character, or movie franchise may seem like a good idea for now, but these things are called "pop culture" for a reason: Things don't tend to stay popular forever. We couldn't believe some of the pop culture tattoos we found, like Britney's shaved head or the "Snakes On A Plane" logo, but we'd love to be there 20 years down the road when some of these have to be explained. Which would YOU get removed? Check them out and vote for the most regrettable!
